It’s not often you come across identical twins who go on to marry identical twins. And it’s even rarer when those sets of twins also move in together.
That’s one reason why people are obsessed with learning more about Brittany and Briana Deane Salyers and their husbands, Josh and Jeremy Salyers.
The Men of Their Dreams
Growing up, Brittany and Briana always dreamed of marrying identical twins. They wanted to share their whole lives together, and what better way to do so than by meeting and marrying identical twin men who understood their unique bond? Well, as it turns out, sometimes putting things into the universe really does pan out.
The women met Josh and Jeremy Salyers back in 2017 at the Twins Day Festival in Twinsburg, Ohio. Their connections were immediate, and a year later, they returned to the festival to wed in a joint ceremony.
They wore matching gowns for their “Twice Upon a Time” ceremony and reveled in how their stars had aligned. Because as it turned out, Josh and Jeremy had made a pact of their own not to marry unless they fell in love with identical twin sisters.
“If they couldn’t find identical twin girls that matched up well with them, they were never getting married,” Brittany told People. “I think that they experienced a lot of the same challenges dating what we call singletons, that means non-twins. It’s hard when you’re dating someone and they don’t understand the twin bond.”
A Quaternary Marriage
When it came to figuring out where to live, these couples always knew they wanted to share the same home. So they moved under the same roof, where each couple went on to have a baby boy. Brittany and Josh announced the birth of their son, Jett, in January 2021. Four months later, Briana and Jeremy welcomed Jax.
Jax and Jett share a room and are known as “quaternary twins,” or genetic siblings. According to Briana, they get along great with all of the adults. “Sometimes they both want one mom, or they’ll turn around and both want the other mom,” she told People in a follow-up interview.
Living a quaternary marriage (the term for when identical twins marry identical twins) may be a dream come true, but there are still challenges.
“If Josh and Jeremy are in an argument, Briana and I try not to get into it,” Brittany explained to the publication. “If Briana and I are in a disagreement, Josh and Jeremy try to not get into it. That’s probably good advice for anybody who’s married.”
The trick, she says, is to remember they’re all living the dream.
“It’s nice to take some time to remind yourself of how badly you wanted it when you were younger and how impossible it seemed at times growing up and when we were dating,” she continued. “And now we have it. So that keeps us strong.”
Keeping the Romance Alive
The other trick to their successful lifestyle is to find the balance between individual relationships and their overall family dynamic. According to Brittany, that means keeping the romance alive.
“Each couple does a good job of striking that balance of, yes, being best friends and family, but still keeping a certain formality,” Brittany continued. “I think a lot of couples slip into that, and I think that works against them. We’re so close, but we do keep it a romantic relationship.”
“We’re not a leave the bathroom door open type,” quipped Briana.
According to Jeremy, the most surprising thing about marriage is that it’s not really as much work as he and his brother were led to believe growing up.
“I think that you all hear that it’s a lot of work to be married, but it’s never really felt like work,” he speculated. “It’s important to really look and see what you have and be thankful for what you do have.”
“I had heard that my whole life, too,” Briana added. “That marriage will be so hard, and it’s not. I feel very lucky.”
Counting Your Blessings
Whether this setup sounds like your dream or your nightmare (because, let’s be honest, not everyone could live with their sibling), this story resonates because it reminds us all to count our blessings and feel thankful for what we have.
These sets of twins realized their dreams, and now they’re determined never to take that for granted. No matter what your dreams look like (having kids, landing the ideal job, finding a partner who checks all your boxes), achieving them can be a great feeling.
But when you do realize something you’ve wanted for so long, many of us can eventually forget how lucky we are and fall into negative patterns. Taking a moment to remind yourself of that when you’re feeling down can help to change your mindset and get to an even better place.
